Where to Turn for Religious Guidance

Mark Winters 2.jpeg

Reverend Mark Winters

Pastor

Mark grew up in the Northwest, outside of Spokane, Washington. He lived in Boston while a student at Boston College, and worked for four years at Fenway Park, selling pizza under the stands behind third base. He also volunteered in Belfast (Northern Ireland), and most recently lived in the suburbs of Chicago. Mark has served churches in Washington and Illinois, focusing primarily on areas of social justice and inclusion, striving to connect tradition and theology in relevant ways for the present time. Mark earned a BA in English from BC in 1999, a Master of Divinity from the Chicago Theological Seminary in 2009 (where he currently serves on the Board of Trustees), and he is currently working toward his Doctor of Ministry degree at the Pittsburgh Theological Seminary. Mark is looking forward to exploring Island culinary offerings, and cheering on the Martha’s Vineyard Sharks this summer. He and his family live in Edgartown.

Peter Boak moved to Martha’s Vineyard as a resident in 1994, after vacationing all the previous summers of his life here.  He earned his undergraduate degree from Westminster Choir College in Princeton, NJ in 1973, and a Master of Sacred Music degree from Perkins School of Theology at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, TX in 1983, where he graduated magna cum laude. During his 25 years at the Federated Church, he and the choir have travelled to Europe four times, singing concerts in England, Scotland, Wales, France, Switzerland, Italy, and Ireland. When not involved in church music, Peter can be seen on stage at the Vineyard Playhouse as an accompanist for the Wicked Good Musical Revues.  He also collaborates with other musical theater productions on the island. Peter lives in Oak Bluffs with his cat, Eulalie, and with Sadie, his Great Dane.
